New ICU Patient Transfer Policy

The ICU will now call IM Duty once they believe a patient is stable for transfer out of the ICU, even if the patient does not have a bed assigned. They WILL NOT be contacting the NOD to check for bed availability before calling for consideration to transfer.

As IM Duty, please go and evaluate patient and, if the patient is deemed appropriate for the floor, place transfer orders so the patient can move to Med/Surg unit as soon as a bed is available AND place the MED General Admission Order Set. Once accepted to an IM team, IM will be primary and responsible for the care of this patient, EVEN IF THEY REMAIN IN THE ICU WHILE WAITING FOR AN AVAILABE MED/SURG BED.

Please reach out to the IM CoR or IM Inpatient DIVO Dr. Davis if you have any questions/concerns.
